Making Peace with God

Inside the building, the air was stagnant. There were dark faces, young and old, looking up at the Preacher. He had crossed thousands of miles to come to these people. Now, he was the messenger standing between life and death for many of them. He glanced upward. His eyes fell along the length of the back wall of the room. Sitting cross legged in a row on the floor of the cold dirt floor, with eyes, dark and piercing, the group of warriors were dressed in full tribal regalia. These men were fighters: headhunters, from a long line of headhunters.

Rejecting the niggle of fear that threatened to creep up into his soul, he thought about how he could tell them. His words were not their words. His thoughts were even structured different from theirs. How could he tell them so that they could grasp the importance of his message? He prayed. The thought came to his mind of war and peace. Peace was something that was and had been elusive to these people. Cannibalism, treachery, and greed were celebrated in this society. The time had come for him to speak. He knew what to say, and more importantly, he knew that the message was not his, but from God.

The preacher opened his mouth and told the people that God was coming and that he was mad about sin, and they’d better make peace with him before he gets here!

Friend, God is coming back, and he is angry at sin, but he made a way for us to make peace with him.

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1

You and I Have to Make Peace With God

God is angry at sin.

Psalms 7:11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin is death,  but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Have Sinned

Sin started with the first man: Adam.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men; for that all have sinned.

We were born sinners.

Psalms 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Everyone, but Jesus Christ.

Matthew 1:20-25 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

You Must be Born Again.

John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Peace With God Comes Through Justification.

Justification comes by faith in Christ Jesus.

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1

Jesus Christ Paid for Our Sins

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Mark 8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God;

Jesus Christ laid down his life on the cross of Calvary as payment for our sins.

This is what the Bible teaches about making peace with God, and having eternal life/salvation:

  1. Repent: Meaning to turn from your sins.
    • Acts 3:18-19 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
  2. Believe
    • John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    • John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
  3.  Call on his name. Ask him to save you!
    • Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
